About Me
Like many coaches, I played baseball as a kid. After high school at age 19, I tried out and made it as an outfielder in an Independent Developmental Semi-Pro League in the Fort Worth Area. For 3 years, I played in the Independent league. At this point, I just hoped I could keep playing for as long as I could. Unfortunately, I was taught linear mechanics from the time I started playing. As the dream of playing long term began to fade, I took more of an interest in coaching and teaching my fellow players. This was the beginning of my interest and love of coaching & teaching the game of baseball.
I have been coaching and teaching young players baseball for over 13 years having coached and helped coached multiple select baseball teams ranging from age 5 to age 18. I, like many coaches out there, taught what I had been taught while I was playing and that was linear mechanics. I was introduced to rotational mechanics and Mike Epstein’s teaching by one of my son’s coaches on his select team. Mike Marshall is his name and he deserves a lot of credit not only for his coaching ability(which was tremendous as a hitting coach and an outstanding coach of pitching mechanics as well), but for his willingness to make players and parents aware of a different and better way to swing than what most knew of.
I began to learn as much as I could about rotational hitting and Mike Epstein’s teachings. The more I learned the more I wanted to learn. Everything was right and made sense about rotational hitting and Mike Epstein’s teachings. The best hitters in baseball (high school, college, and definitely in the big leagues) and softball all use rotational mechanics to deliver their productive hitting results.
I began to teach rotational mechanics and have been for several years now. Despite all of my experience and study of rotational hitting, I needed more. I needed tutoring from the foremost authority on the subject, Mike Epstein. So in early 2006, I decided to learn from the master and get my certification to instruct for Mike Epstein hitting. I spent a week in Colorado with Mike and Jake Epstein and solidified my ability to instruct hitters in the most productive way to hit in the game of baseball and softball.
I teach the Epstein System 7 day program designed to teach baseball and softball players the rotational swing of the most productive players in their sport. I can help any player and I am passionate about helping them learn the most productive hitting technique. The technique that will allow a hitter to hit to their FULL potential. That is the rotational hitting technique. I have been taught how to teach the swing of the big leaguers by the foremost authority on hitting and the proper swing in the history of baseball. That, in the end, is more important than anything else I have done(playing or coaching) throughout my baseball career.
I may not have “played” at the highest level of my sport like many teachers out there(who, by the way, most don’t even teach what they performed as players), but I have been tutored by the best teachers who did. Some of the best coaches in America(in many different sports) never “played” at the highest level of their sport. Some never even played at all! Playing is one thing, but teaching is very different and I know and can teach the swing of the most productive hitters in the game… Bottom line.
Sincerely yours,
Coach Todd
